"The boy was standing in the doorway, half turned, looking at him with a wan smile, puzzled, like one who aspires to disbelief in the face of immutable fact."
I hate seeing this expression on people's faces when I ask for something in a restaurant. Can I have this without tomatoes?
Once, in Honduras I was eating with my sister and her friend. He speaks fluent Spanish all the time. So when the bill came he asked, in Spanish, if they accept credit cards.
The girl gave him that look.
He repeated himself once or twice.
So, I said it, in accented Spanish and the lady was like, "Oh, yes we do! La de da de da!"
We were very confused.
